Union Institute of Language (UIL) [CRICOS Provider No: 02529F | ABN: 61 103 721 759] is a TEQSA registered, NEAS accredited English Language College committed to providing high quality English courses, study tours and homestay to international students of all ages from around the world. UIL has campuses in Springfield, Cairns and the Sunshine Coast. UIL is seeking a casual ELICOS teacher starting from 17 February 2025 to be based at the Cairns Campus.
Qualifications and other requirements:
- Must have teaching experience of school age and/or adult international students, or be studying a Bachelor in Education.
- Must hold a TESOL Qualification
- Must hold a Queensland Blue Card or Exemption Card.
- Basic experience using the online teaching platform Microsoft Teams and Zoom videoconferencing tools is desirable.
Main tasks and duties include:
- Teach classes in English to our international students arriving from overseas including mainland China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Japan, Vietnam and Indonesia to name a few.
- Teach prepared content and daily lesson plans and relevant teaching materials for Study Tour courses.
- Adapt the content to suit the English level of the class.
- Include fun and engaging English Language activities.
- Foster a welcoming and inclusive environment for international students, promoting cultural exchange and understanding.
- Teaching our international students individually and in small groups out of the regular classroom and assisting students within normal classroom settings.
- Provide information on academic issues and absenteeism to relevant staff.
Additional tasks when the need arise:
- Provide students with assistance in managing specific areas of learning difficulty and providing support to ensure the student is able to overcome various barriers to more effective academic progression where required.
- Ensure student attendance and punctuality is accurately recorded in accordance with institution policy.
- Closely monitor student progress and wellbeing informing academic managers as required.
- Apply institution disciplinary policy to students who display inappropriate behaviour and provide documentary evidence of breaches in policy.
- Input into course design and curriculum development for our Study Tour teaching modules as required.
- Liaising with student services and homestay staff as required to communicate student issues.
