ELICOS Head Teacher (Under 18 years old Program)

The Adelaide Education Group (AEG) is a multi-sectored and dynamic education consortium in Australia and delivers government accredited and non-award courses from Primary to Postgraduate levels for local and overseas students. AEG comprises the Adelaide International School (AIS), Adelaide Institute of Business and Technology (AIBT), Adelaide Institute of Higher Education (AIHE), Adelaide Research Institute (ARI), and Intensive English Learning Centre (IELC).
Adelaide Institute of Business and Technology (AIBT) is a Registered Training Organisation focused on Business courses but in the process of expanding beyond this into other strategically selected disciplines.
Due to continued growth in enrolments, we are seeking a dedicated and experienced EAP / ELICOS Teacher to join our Under-18 English language program. This position is ideal for candidates who are passionate about English language education and are committed to delivering high-quality teaching to international students.
About the Role
In this role, you will teach EAP to students aged 12–17 in a supportive, school-style environment. You will help students grow in their academic English, build confidence, develop study skills, and get ready for mainstream schooling. You will work closely with the Director of Studies (DoS) to support best practice in teaching and learning, assessment and ongoing professional development. This role requires constant collaboration with the DoS, teaching staff, and the Student Services team to maintain effective communication of ideas and decisions.
The role is a full-time, 12-month fixed-term contract position based in Adelaide, CBD.
The remuneration is competitive and will be dependent upon the successful applicant’s qualifications and experience.
Duties and Responsibilities
The Head Teacher’s duties and responsibilities will vary depending on teaching load and operational needs, and include (but are not limited to):
· Teach ELICOS/EAP classes (up to 25 hours per week; teaching load may vary based on enrolments)
· Provide guidance and support to teachers on lesson planning, classroom management, and effective teaching strategies for school-aged international learners
· Monitor class attendance and ensure accuracy of daily records and lesson plan administration
· Assist with the development, review, and improvement of curriculum
· Contribute to planning weekly themes, projects, and academic-skills components for the Under-18 program
· Oversee and moderate assessments and student results to ensure consistency and accuracy
· Support teachers in implementing assessment policies and maintaining academic integrity
· Coordinate teacher relief (cover classes) and manage classroom changes when needed
· Assist with weekly student notices and communication to ensure smooth program operation
· Other related duties as determined by the DoS
About You
· Demonstrated experience (at least minimum three years) teaching English for Academic Purposes or ELICOS programs
· Evidence of recent and relevant professional development in English language teaching
· Strong understanding of TESOL methodology, lesson planning, and assessment practices.
· Proven ability to support school-aged international students and help them achieve positive learning outcomes.
· Confident using Microsoft Office and digital tools to support teaching and learning.
· Knowledge of Canvas is desirable.
· Current Working with Children Check (as required in South Australia)
· Responding to Risk of Harm, Abuse and Neglect (RRHAN).
· Current First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).
· Must have the right to work in Australia.
· Teacher registration is desirable but not essential.
Essential Qualifications
- Recognised Bachelor degree (any field)
- Cert IV TESOL
