ESL Job Brisbane
BROWNS English Language School
Assistant Director of Studies, Brisbane
About BROWNS
BROWNS English Language School is an established Australian ELICOS provider with campuses in Brisbane, the Gold Coast, and Melbourne. Operating for more than 23 years, BROWNS delivers a full suite of accredited programmes spanning general English, academic English and IELTS preparation, high school and primary school preparation, and junior holiday programmes.
We are seeking an experienced Assistant Director of Studies to join the academic leadership team at our Brisbane campus.
About the role
The ADoS is at the heart of the academic department. You will work alongside the Campus Manager to keep teaching and learning running smoothly, and you will be a familiar, trusted presence for both teachers and students. The role suits someone who enjoys variety. One morning you might be moderating assessments, the next you might be covering a class, troubleshooting a timetable, or sitting down with a teacher to talk through a tricky lesson.
You will also teach. Relief teaching and scheduled teaching are part of the role, and we think that is a feature, not a chore. The best academic leaders we have known are the ones who stay close to the classroom.
What you will do
• Support the Campus Manager in running the academic side of the campus.
• Mentor and develop teachers through observations, feedback, and professional development.
• Look after the quality of teaching and learning, including moderation and assessment standards.
• Manage student academic needs, from placement testing through to progress monitoring.
• Contribute to curriculum design and keep us aligned with accreditation and ELICOS standards.
• Coordinate teacher timetabling and course scheduling.
• Be the go-to person for academic queries from students, staff, and partners.
• Teach as required, including relief cover and scheduled classes.
What we are looking for
• Customer-focused, with a genuine warmth for students and colleagues.
• A strategic planner who can think a few steps ahead.
• A strong communicator who builds easy, productive relationships.
• Calm under pressure, with a sense of humour intact when things get busy.
• Detail-oriented and committed to academic quality.
• Adaptable in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
• Comfortable with technology and willing to try new tools.
• A natural leader and motivator who lifts the people around them.
Qualifications and experience
• A recognised degree (any field) and Certificate IV in TESOL, or a recognised degree in Education with a TESOL component.
• Fluent English and a deep working knowledge of the language.
• Valid Working with Children Check (Queensland Blue Card).
• Current work rights in Australia.
