Language and Learning Advisors provide critical support for CDU students and provides targeted interventions that develop academic, language, literacy, numeracy, and digital capability support amongst CDU’s student cohort.
About the Position
As the Language and Learning Advisor, you will be responsible for devising effective and scalable solutions that enable the team to reach students in need, preferably as an early intervention, and beyond a one-on-one delivery model. This will include tailored training workshops, instructional training materials, online learning objects, activities, and assessments suitable for the study needs of all students, working with academic staff to embed learning skills within the curriculum. They will also be involved in collaborative co-design processes for new accredited courses or course re-accreditation reviews. Part of the broader Library team, Advisors encourage students to use the range of services provided, cross-referring to internal experts as needed. Advisors may specialise in the provision of skills (for example numeracy, research, or language support) or to a particular group of students contributing to the University’s ongoing commitment to support a diverse range of often non-traditional learners to succeed.
About You
To be successful, you will require:
- Experience in the design and delivery of learning support programs and initiatives to engender confidence in students from diverse backgrounds to achieve learning outcomes, including training in areas such as language, literacy, and numeracy skills.
- A degree in a relevant field and a Certificate IV in TESOL qualification and demonstrated experience in developing academic literacies.
- Experience in designing educational resources and materials using a range of technologies for scalable delivery in an online-first environment.
- Excellent communication skills with demonstrated ability to engage and collaborate with professional and academic staff and students from diverse educational, language and cultural backgrounds.
- Proven ability to lead and manage improvement projects, informed by stakeholder and client feedback, preferably in an educational context.
- Experience and/or contemporary knowledge of the issues and trends affecting academic literacy and language services and the needs of academic staff and students.
- Demonstrated technical proficiency in software application skills including Microsoft Office software and interactive content design software, such as H5P.
- Ability to demonstrate efficient work practices to stay organised and on top of busy workflows.
- The ability to work autonomously and with influence, making a significant organisational contribution to the success of programs or services.
- Extensive experience in teaching English as a second language in a classroom setting.
- Extensive experience in evaluating educational language and learning programs aimed at students across a range of discipline and fields.

Remuneration
Appointment to this role will be at Professional Level 7 – 8. The base salary will be in the range of $93,475 – $118,578 per annum. The total remuneration package will be in the range of $109,365 – $138,736 per annum, including 17% superannuation.
