The role
This is an exciting opportunity for an ELICOS teacher to join our fantastic team at our Adelaide campus! Apart from teaching evening classes, this role is also responsible for curriculum development and delivery, assessment of student work and reporting results. We offer competitive rates for casual teachers, including:
- Immediate start
- salaries according to the Education Services (Post Secondary Education) Award
- an emergency relief rate of $75 per hour
In this role you will
- Deliver lessons to an ELICOS class of students for whom English is a second language.
- Attend and participate in weekly teachers’ meetings, bimonthly professional development sessions, and liaison sessions as required.
- Complete all the regulatory administration duties required by ESOL National Code of Practice, including attendance and progress monitoring, and record keeping.
- Enforce the Student Contract (i.e. English only, no mobiles, being respectful, participating and no recording) and non-smoking rule (i.e. in the premises or by the entrance door) on all students.
- Work with the Student Services team to follow up certificate requests and missing Exit Grade/Level results.
- Keep track of stationary needs and communicate this with Student Services.
- Adopt a neat and cooperative approach to classroom and staffroom organisation and administration.
- Assist the HT in keeping the staffroom neat and tidy.
- Take work-related text messages within work hours, in and outside the staffroom.
- Comply with all policies and practices of the college. \
- Teaching students beginner to intermediate English language skills based on a principled, communicative, student-centered approach, via dynamic tasks and activities that promote deep student engagement.
- Preparing course outlines and goals to match student learning outcomes and needs.
- Maintaining current lesson plans, assessment data, and attendance records using a defined school-sanctioned electronic interface.
- Assigning lessons, correcting homework, and preparing and grading exams.
- Assessing the extent of language progress in students for whom English is an additional language.
- Monitoring progress and providing feedback regularly to help manage students’ performance throughout the course, and actively promote learner autonomy.
- Regularly attending professional development workshops both internal and external to the organisation.
- Sharing best practices with colleagues during professional development sessions.
- Providing relief cover for other teachers
- Other administrative and housekeeping duties as required by the HTs, monitored by the DoS.
- Adhoc covers for JHP, PSP and HSP classes from time to time.
What you’ll need to succeed
- Bachelor’s Degree + Certificate IV in TESOL
- Experience and qualified in teaching international EAL students
- Strong IT skills and digital literacy experience
- A passion for maximising student engagement and student academic performance
- Australian Working Rights
